Astana International Exchange (“AIX”, “Exchange”) is pleased to announce that the number of individual accounts opened with AIX CSD by Kazakhstani residents has reached and exceeded 1 million, increasing more than sixfold during the course of last three years. According to AIX internal data, the gender split is almost even, i.e. 50/50 by female and male account holders.
Technological progress introduced in recent years by Kazakhstani market participants in the field of investment has expanded the opportunities for individual investors and leveled the playing field with institutional investors. COVID restrictions have pushed retail investors to turn to the stock market for additional income – thousands of new investor accounts were opened between 2021-1H2023. The development of digital applications for trading in the stock market has largely contributed to the growth of the number of retail investors.
