Astana International Exchange (“AIX” or “Exchange”) held a trading session opening coincided with the International Mother Language Day, established by UNESCO in 1999.
Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan, stated:
“Today, due to the high level of scientific and technological progress, it is very important to be able to assimilate new information and terms in the state language and to be able to incorporate them into everyday life. This year, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education is adopting a 7-year programme for language development. A prerequisite for the development of any language is its firm anchoring in innovative, economic and digital areas. Therefore, we are ready to work closely with the Astana International Financial Centre to improve financial and investment literacy.”
Assel Mukazhanova, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the AIX, noted:
“Financial literacy is one of the AIX’s strategic pillars and special focus is devoted to state language in this context. Historically, most of the information available on investments and investing was mainly in Russian and changes in trends become visible just in the recent years. Definitely, there is evidence of growing interest and demand for materials in Kazakh language which we at AIX are supportive to. As an example, we experienced at AIX, when Tabys mobile investment app was launched two years ago, only 1–2% of investors have been approaching us seeking for advice and consultations in Kazakh language. Nowadays, the number of requests in Kazakh language is growing gradually and in per centage points it reached double digit. We hope that such pace of growth will continue over time and financial information in the mother tongue will be widely available and accessible.”
